Andrea is the practice’s business manager and a significant shareholder of the company. She has worked with Fraser Butterworth in this capacity for over twenty years. Andrea is entirely conversant with the requirements of AIA contract documentation and knows what the process of building administration is all about, including the legal ramifications. The paperwork required to properly administer an architectural project of any significance is enormous, particularly a project that also encompasses the services of multiple consultants. Andrea is extraordinarily efficient in all aspects of this work for a project.

The administration and recording of all activities in a project within the practice always passes through Andrea’s hands. Her patience is legendary and she is an efficient and tireless worker. Andrea’s involvement with architecture expands outside the practice as she is also the Administrator of the Institute of Bermuda Architects, which includes handling the details of the health insurance and professional indemnity insurance schemes (for which the IBA negotiates blanket coverage for all its members).

Charles’s family came to Bermuda in the early seventeenth century. Charles himself has been engaged in Bermuda’s architectural community since 1972. Previously managing director of Design Associates, Charles has had a long and successful career as an Architectural Technologist and went on to set up his own thriving design services company. He is a very accomplished and creative man who enjoys living life to the fullest. Charles joined Design Limited as a shareholder who believes in the company ideology of sensible design, capable construction and an intuitive knowledge of how things are built and operated. He shares this philosophy with Fraser Butterworth. He is Chairman of the Historic Buildings Committee of the Bermuda National Trust, a member of the Bermuda Maritime Museum Association and Vice Chairman of the Bermuda Technical Institute Association. He, like his colleagues, is well versed in the complexities of working in what should be (but rarely is) a simple Island environment. Charles is utterly reliable.

Rick has enormous experience in all aspects of design and construction. His dual direction of further education led him through a Fine Arts Program into architecture.  As such, this has allowed a comfortable fit between both of the company’s specialties, architecture and interior design. His largest project to date has been job captain of a large ($35M) headquarters building for Bermuda’s largest insurance provider, Argus Insurance. Rick worked on the team that produced all the contract documents for this job and has been well suited for his extended role. Rick has held comparable senior positions in the design and documentation of several larger projects including A.S. Cooper & Sons Ltd, West Hamiton / Belvedere and many interior design and fit up projects.

He has considerable previous experience in commercial and residential architecture both here in Bermuda and in Canada (where he also worked on a hospital construction programme). Rick has also worked extensively within our interior design programme where his attention to final fitted details makes him a perfect follow on from the base building architecture program.

Juan Curtis

Intern Architect

Juan is Bermudian by birth, he is qualified as an Intern Architect after attending Ryerson University in Toronto where he obtained a degree as Batchelor of Architectural Science. In Bermuda he attended the Bermuda College and studied in their Associate in Arts and Science Program. He is well versed in the dealings of construction in Bermuda and has become an asset to the firm, particularly with his knowledge of computorised Architectural Drafting and Presentation programs.

He lists his skills as AutoCAD, Revit, Adobe Design Suite Photoshop, illustrator, Acrobat Professional and InDesign. Microsoft Office, Technesis, Computer networking and Computer repair.

Missing from this list of attributes are his high levels of industry and general affability within the studio.
